Do you, or does someone you know use a OneScotland card to access concessionary travel? If so, it needs to be replaced to allow continued access to free bus travel after December 31 this year.

Councils across Scotland are currently replacing OneScotland cards, which are used for concessionary travel by anyone aged 60 or over or anyone who has received one on grounds of disability.

New cards are being sent to all existing cardholders but if your address has changed or you have not received your replacement yet we need to hear from you.

The new card can be used straight away, and will have either a mygovscot or saltirecard logo instead of the OneScotland logo.

It will no longer have a ‘valid to’ date and becomes a card for life, unless your card has been issued on the grounds of disability.

Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Policy and Resources Committee, Cllr Richard Thomson, said: “The process of replacing cards has been ongoing for several months and good progress has been made so far in reaching existing holders.

“We now need to hear from anybody who has not yet received their replacement to make sure they are able to continue to travel freely in the new year.”

Committee vice-chair Cllr Stephen Smith said: “The new cards have reached the majority of holders, but we want to reduce the risk of anybody having to pay a fare through attempting to use an expired card after December 31.

“If you know somebody who uses concessionary travel – perhaps a parent, grandparent, family member or neighbour – please check that they have received their new card. If not, they need to contact us urgently.”

If you already have your new card, you don’t need to do anything but please check with relatives and friends to make sure that they have received a replacement and that they have started to use it.

Once you receive your new card it’s important that you destroy your old bus pass to avoid confusion, even if it has not expired.
