Woman mugged in Peterhead

A 62-year-old woman was mugged in Peterhead this morning after a thief snatched her handbag and ran off.

The woman was walking on Harbour Street in the town at around 6.50 am when a male took hold of the bag and ran away.

The suspect is described as male, aged around 17, around 5ft 10 ins tall and of slim build.

He was wearing a black hooded top, light blue jeans and clean white trainers.

The woman was not injured in the robbery but was left shaken as a result.

Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses to the incident which seen personal items and a quantity of cash taken from the victim.

Inspector Simon Reid said: “This incident was clearly very upsetting for the lady involved.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and being led by our Criminal Investigation Department supported by the local Community Policing Team and Proactive Unit.

Inspector Reid urged anyone with any information or anyone who recognised the description to contact police immedietly.

He added: “Whilst such types of crime are thankfully rare in Peterhead this may be linked to recent similar incidents in the Buchan area.

We are currently carrying out additional patrols to reassure the community and to respond to any concerns people may have at this time.”
