A LONG-awaited bylaw which will outlaw the drinking of alcohol on the streets of Peterhead could be in place by October, police have said.
Grampian Police Inspector Kenny Coutts told Peterhead Community Council last week that a budget had been found for planning and posters that would advertise the new bylaw.
He said: “We are waiting for the okay from the Scottish Government and then we should be able to put notices in the local papers announcing the date that the bylaw will come into force. We are hoping that it will happen by the end of October.”
Community Warden Ian Kennedy said that he looked forward to the new law being introduced, saying: “It has really dragged its heels but I am glad it is almost upon us. People will have fair warning and I think it will make things that bit better for everyone.”
