A DRINK driver was caught on camera after he stopped at a petrol station to buy snacks.
Glenn Docherty was caught “staggering” on CCTV footage at a garage on Peterhead’s South Road after he stopped to purchase “snacks and other supplies” shortly before 4am on October 1.
The court heard Docherty’s car was “still warm” and he was “plainly inebriated” when police caught up with him at his Schivas Road home a short time later.
The 52-year-old was found to be more than twice the legal driving limit when breathalysed, but was co-operative with officers.
Leonard Birkenshaw, defending, said that Docherty had parked his car in the town with the intention of walking or taking a taxi home after his night out.
He said: “When Mr Docherty walked past his car, he decided to jump into the car. This has obviously had a dramatic effect on him and he realises that he made a very poor decision.”
Docherty was banned from driving for two years and fined £800 by Sheriff Gregor Murray.
