Peterhead folk were shocked to hear that the body of a man had been discovered on the shore at Gadle Braes on Saturday morning.
It is thought that a member of the public - said to be a postman - made the grim discovery on his Saturday morning round and alerted the police who immediately cordoned off the area often used by local dog walkers. The 44-year-old male was formally identified as Barry Anthony Cannon, though it is unknown where he resided.
His death is still being treated as unexplained and officers confirmed early into the enquiry that the deceased man was not Ernest Mackie, who went missing in the Cruden Bay area last week.
A spokesman for Grampian Police said: “We are appealing for anyone to come forward who may have information which can assist with our enquiries, including people who may have been walking in the area.
“If any suspicious persons, or unusual incidents have been noticed please contact Grampian Police on 0845 600 5 700 or anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Detective Inspector Graeme Mackie, who led the investigation would like to thank members of the public for their patience during this time whilst the road was closed off and anyone who assisted with their enquiries.
