Six people were arrested and charged with drug offences over the weekend in the Buchan area while a further six were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Police Scotland’s Aberdeenshire and Moray Division has conducted an operation to target drug crime and violent offenders in the Peterhead and Fraserburgh areas as part of Operation Banook.

As a result of the action, officers also recovered heroin and ‘crack’ cocaine with an estimated street value of around £1,600.

Inspector Kevin Goldie, based in Fraserburgh, said: “Police Scotland is committed to tackling the supply of drugs in our communities and I would like to thank the public for their support as we rely on your information to target those involved.

“This action will continue and I encourage anyone with any information to bring it to our attention, so we can show that these illegal activities are not welcome in the North East of Scotland.”

Operation Banook was launched in response to local concerns about drug use, drug dealing and violence in the Peterhead and Fraserburgh areas.

Officers from the local Community Policing Teams worked closely with specialist colleagues from the Operational Support Unit, CID, Divisional Violence Reduction Unit and Dog Handlers.
