Buchan Area Committee members have supported plans to replace and maintain Ladies Bridge at Cruden Bay.
At their meeting on Tuesday, councillors agreed that Aberdeenshire Council should replace the existing structure and take over responsibility of maintenance.
The council had been due to return responsibility for the bridge back to the Cruden Bay community after repair work had been carried out, but instead it has opted to take care of all future maintenance.
The bridge is the only direct route to Cruden Bay beach and has been in a state of disrepair for many years, so much so it had to be closed around two years ago due to fears over safety.
This decision by councillors will please residents of Cruden Bay, as the future of the bridge has been secured.
Speaking at the meeting, Peterhead South and Cruden councillor, Stephen Smith, put forward the motion to replace the bridge and spoke of his delight at the outcome.
He said: “I’m pleased that we’ve now got the backing of the Buchan Area Committee on this.”
A project timeline will be established once consultations with Cruden Bay Community Association have been completed, a solution agreed and funding identified.
