Churches prepare for Remembrance Sunday

SUNDAY, November 13, is being marked nationally as Remembrance Sunday and so services appropriate for the occasion will be held in churches and at war memorials across the land.

The Rev. James McMillan of Peterhead Congregational Church is the guest speaker at this week’s meeting of the Peterhead Methodist Church Sisterhood on Wednesday, November 9, at 7.15pm. All ladies are very welcome.

On Thursday, November 10, the Blythswood Care collecting vehicle will be making its monthly visit to Peterhead and district to receive donations of items to help the charity in its extensive relief work in so many different parts of the world.

The first call of the day will be the former Focus car park, off Catto Drive, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Then, after a call at Crimond around 1.15pm, the vehicle will be at Fraserburgh Leisure Centre for the rest of the afternoon until 4.30pm. All donations will be received most gratefully.

Deer Parish Church Guild is having a Guild Coffee Morning in Mintlaw Public Hall on Saturday, November 12, from 10am to 12 noon.

Peterhead St. Andrew’s Parish Church is having once again its ever popular Autumn Fayre. This is to be in the Palace Hotel on Saturday, November 12, where there will be all the usual stalls and everyone is welcome.

The forenoon will feature a Buttery Morning from 10am to 12 noon the charge being £2. Then from 12 noon until 2pm, a Soup and Sweet Lunch will be served for which the charge is £3.50 and here again all are welcome.

On Sunday, November 13, in Old Deer Church at 10.30am, a service for Remembrance Day will be led by the Rev. Sheila Kirk and a warm welcome is extended to all.

There is no Sunday School that morning but there will be crèche facilities available during the service.

There is no service at all in St. Drostan’s Episcopal Church, Old Deer, on Sunday, November 12.

This is because it has been arranged that the St. Drostan friends will be joining with the congregation at Old Deer Church for the Remembrance Service which, as intimated already, commences at 10.30am.

A Praise Evening Service is to be led by the Rev. Sheila Kirk in Fetterangus Church at 6pm on Sunday, November 13. Everyone is welcome and after the service there will be the opportunity to stay on for teas and fellowship.

Sena and Johann will be joining with the Peterhead Congregational Church Ladies’ Guild when they meet on Monday, November 14, at 7.30pm.

On Saturday, November 12, from 11.30am to 1.30pm. St. Kane’s Church Rock Solid Group at New Deer are having a Soup and Sweet Lunch in the Mustard Seed Cafe. The Remembrance Day Service in St. Kane’s Church, New Deer, will be at 10.45am.

Deer Parish Church Prayer Group will meet in Old Deer Church on Wednesday, November 16, from 6.30 to 7.15pm and all are welcome.

Peterhead St. Andrew’s Parish Church Guild meets on Wednesday, November 16, at 7.30pm when Mrs. S. Campbell will give a talk on Mercy Ships.

Peterhead Old Parish Church Guild is having a St. Andrew’s Night with Bill Gray and Company and this will be on Wednesday, November 16, at the earlier commencing time of 7pm. Please note that change.

Church of Scotland Guild members are asked to note that Guild Week is to be from November 20-27 inclusive.

The Annual Sale of Work arranged by Peterhead Old Parish Church is to be held on Saturday, November 19, in the Palace Hotel from 10am to 2pm.

Besides them being the usual stalls, there will be coffee and rolls available from 10am until 11.30am. Then from 11.30am until 2pm there is to be a Soup and Sweet lunch. All are welcome.

Also on Saturday, November 19, in Peterhead Methodist Church, Queen Street, there is to be a Buttery Morning with the usual sales tables from 10am to 12 noon. Admission is £2. This is a joint venture shared by the ladies of the Sisterhood and the Church Banner Team. Everyone is welcome.

Please note that the Cruden Parish Church Remembrance Sunday Service is at 10.30am on Sunday, November 13 and not at 10am as in previous years.
