Butefest 2016: Introducing .. Skerryvore

Skerryvore are back at Butefest - and this time it’s personal!

The band were about to take to the stage 12 months ago when the heavens opened.

The deluge that followed forced the closure of the site, so it’s second time lucky as they headline Friday night at Butefest.

Skerryvore are a huge Scottish success story - a band with a decade on the road and in the studio, and one that has reached out to audiences across the globe.

Their Celtic rock sound has garnered awards and fans galore.

Formed in Tiree in 2004, the band’s real breakthrough came with their third, self-titled album, released in 2010, that really made the breakthrough.

The Scottish New Music Awards made it their ‘album of the year’ and also crowned the band as live performers of the year.

The Celtic rock sound that underpins their work remains very much in evidence although Skerryvore has love long branched out into rock, pop and jazz - and on stage is where they really come alive.

They’ve tour pretty much everywhere - 2016 alone sees them on the road, performing at many festivals.

After Butefest they head to Spey Fest and then head to Germany for the Loreley Celtic festival and then across the Atlantic to play at everything from the Scottish Highland Gathering in San Francisco to Pittsburgh’s Irish Festival , and New Hampshire’s Highland Games … rounding off the year back home at Darvel Music Festival.

Given the deluge which kept them off stage at Butefest last year, the band will surely be given the warmest of welcomes as they bring the curtain down on the opening night.

Their music is tailored to the live stage - a glorious sound that should have the audience up on its feet from the start.

And if you find yourself dancing home in the dark, then you may want to seek out a bottle of whisky bearing their name.

The single cask, single malt called Skerryvore was released last year, and just 290 bottles were produced.

There could be no finer way of ending this gig than with a wee dram named after the band ...
