A Peterhead teenager has been awarded a prestigious regional apprenticeship award.
Sean McCafferty (19), won the Second Stage Electrical Apprentice of the Year Awards 2016 for the whole of the North Region
Sean is in the second year of his apprenticeship as an electrician with local company AM Campbell (UK) Ltd Electricians of Seagate, Peterhead.
SECTT administers the Electrical Apprenticeship Programme throughout Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Joint Industry Board.
In line with competence based assessment in the Electrical SVQ, SECTT continues to promote training and excellence in the Electrical Contracting industry by organising Apprentice of the Year competitions for both first and second Stage apprentices.
Sean won the second year regional heat and represented the North East of Scotland in the final which was held on Wednesday, June 15 at the Inverness College UHI.
Competing in the North region final were eight apprentices from Aberdeen to as far afield as the Orkney Isles, each of whom had won their respective regional heats.
The finalists were put through a rigorous assessment of both practical skills as well as their theoretical knowledge in each of their area competitions.
Sean was declared the winner for the second year (second stage) Electrical Apprentice of the Year 2016.
He now has the opportunity to compete for the UK award and if successful he will then go forward to the world award which will be held in Dubai later this year.
As well as being a prestigious award for Sean and AM Campbell (UK) Ltd it is also a very prestigious award for NESCO Fraserburgh Campus (Broch College) - Electrical Department which was represented at the ceremony by Jim Watt senior course lecturer and SECTT training officer for the North Region.
Sean attends the Fraserburgh Campus on block release.
