A free smartphone app to help promote businesses in Peterhead has been created by Aberdeenshire Council in partnership with technology firm micity Ltd.
The “Mi Peterhead” app uses the latest technology to help businesses engage with local residents.
Businesses can register with the app and upload information, promotions and events which are communicated through the app, which is available on iPhone and Android systems, via the website (www.mipeterhead.co.uk) and on Facebook and Twitter.
Aberdeenshire Council’s Economic Development team came to a partnership agreement with micity Ltd which means that Peterhead town centre businesses can use the Mi Peterhead app and website for free.
The council is also providing support to help businesses set up and load content onto the website, in the form of a specially-trained Digital Champion, available until the end of November.
Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee, Councillor Peter Argyle, said: “The council is keen to help local businesses find ways to promote themselves and this is a fantastic opportunity for Peterhead firms. Social media is now a crucial tool for communication and promotion and I welcome this partnership with micity Ltd.”
Katrina Allan, of Murdoch Allan & Son ltd, said: “We are into our second month of using Mi Peterhead which we frequently use to communicate news of a particular promotion or events. This means we can communicate quickly with a new customer base to encourage them to come along and shop with us. By using mi peterhead as well as our existing channels we are able to
extend our reach.”
Ian Sutherland, from Something Special, added: “Although we add details of
our offers and promotions to our own Facebook page we can also tell Mi Peterhead, who communicates the message to their followers and fans which means many more people find out. This makes it really easy and efficient to speak to many more local residents.”
