MSP for Aberdeenshire East and MP for Gordon, Alex Salmond, visited Longside on Friday to officially open a new shop.
The politician was in the village to mark flower, takeaway and sweetie shop Alannah’s open for business.
Speaking to the Buchanie, Mr Salmond said: “This is a great venture, it’s original and they have made great use of the building.
“I support this new venture very strongly as there is something for everyone and I’m sure it will be a big success.
“I’m very enthusiastic about the opening of small shops in rural villages, that’s why I launched the Small Business Bonus Scheme when I was First Minister.”
He added: “I’ve not tried any of the sweeties today as I’m on a diet but I’m sure Mrs Salmond will be here to order some flowers.”
Speaking about how business has been so far, shop owners Alannah Wiggins and Steven Johnson said: “We have been doing very well, we have only been open for two weeks but it’s been busy.
“We are very grateful for the support that we have had from the public so far and we are overwhelmed that Alex Salmond came along to the opening today as Longside is such a small village.”
