Peterhead’s Waterside Inn sold in £2m deal

A PETERHEAD hotel has been sold in a £2m-plus deal, safeguarding around 80 jobs.

The Waterside Inn, on the Fraserburgh Road, was put on the market at the end of last year and on Friday it was revealed it has been sold to Manchester-based Britannia Hotels, which owns more than 40 establishments across the UK.

This is the third time in less than a decade that the 105-bedroom has been offered for sale and its acquisition by Britannia Hotels makes it one of two Scottish sites owned by the chain.

The popular hotel has been an integral part of Peterhead since it first opened in the 1970s.

It has its own leisure facilities including a swimming pool and gym as well as two bars and a restaurant.

It is also a popular choice for couples for their wedding reception.

The sale of the hotel was brokered by Christie and Co, who had asked for offers of £2.25 million.

A spokesman for the firm said that the Waterside Inn represented an “excellent second foray into the Scottish hotel sector for Britannia Hotels.”

He said that its extensive array of facilities and strong trade meant the Waterside Inn already enjoyed all-year round commercial business.

Originally owned by MacDonald Hotels, the Waterside Inn was sold to the Swallow Hotels group in 2004 then again to Edinburgh-based Crerar in 2006.
