Shop owners and managers in Peterhead are being offered an exciting opportunity to work more closely together thanks to a new initiative from Aberdeenshire Council’s regeneration team.

Local retailers are encouraged to attend an initial meeting at 5.30pm in the Court Room at Arbuthnott House on Wednesday, September 17.

At the meeting is hoped a steering group will be formed.

The steering group will provide a forum for ideas and suggestions to be brought forward and developed, enabling appropriate support and making sure action is correctly targeted.

Commenting on the initiative, Peterhead town centre project officer, Heather Barclay, said: “Support for the town’s independent retail businesses has been identified as a priority within Aberdeenshire Council’s action plan to regenerate the town centre.

“Peterhead has some excellent shops which are owned and managed locally with which we want to develop a strong partnership.

“Many of the issues that affect the high street are national issues which can be much more effectively addressed if we work together.”

She continued: “I look forward to meeting local retailers in Peterhead so together we can make a real difference for both shops and customers.”

The Peterhead Town Centre Action Plan was presented to the public in April 2014.

A number of programmes have already been implemented, including the hawk patrols which took place last month to deter gulls in the town.
