Local development trust Peterhead Projects Limited has launched a recruitment drive for new directors to bolster its ranks.

As the social enterprise prepares to host its annual general meeting on June 24, it is hoping community-minded residents and those from the business sector will show an interest in the trust’s operation.

Owned and led by members of the community - and limited by guarantee – Peterhead Projects was founded in February 2009 to initiate new projects and continues to undertake both short and long-termenterprises in the community.

Relying on its own projects for financial self sufficiency and to further its aims, the company has to generate income through social enterprises, with all profits made being re-invested in the community. A board of six directors from a range of backgrounds currently oversees PPL’s various projects which now include 2ReUse Recycling, Peterhead Lido Caravan Park and the Buchan Meadows Community Woodland.

It also provides social regeneration initiatives such as the Muckle Market and Landale RoadGardens through the Here For You Partnership funded by Fairer Scotland until March 2016.

A full-time project development manager and a full-time clerical and finance co-ordinator operate from the PPL head office at 28 Marischal Street, Peterhead.

Current chairman John Brownlee explained: “Our vision is to improve and promote the town of Peterhead and its surrounding area.

“A key aspect of our business is providing a channel for activities to provide solutions for regeneration, sustainability and civic pride for the benefit of future generations.

“To ensure we achieve those aims it is vital that we continue to strengthen our board and bring round the table a host of new individuals who can play key roles to achieve the aims of Peterhead Projects.”

Individual membership of PPL is open to anyone over the age of 16 living in Peterhead and District, with in excess of 160 members signed up to-date. Corporate membership is also encouraged among businesses or organisations operating within Peterhead and district.
