Peterhead will be well and truly packing a Christmas punch this Saturday.
Once again it will see the former market square of Broad Street brought to life with a mix of stalls, music and children’s activities for all to enjoy between 11am and 3.30pm.
Following the success of the Family Fun Day in September this year, there was clear demand from the public to see another event back in the historic square and to mark this special time of year organisers will stage their first Festive Festival. An array of stalls will be on hand with live music to suit all tastes from Christmas favourites to the sound of the pipes to celebrate St Andrew’s Day and in addition some tasty treats for all to enjoy.
Weather permitting there will also be a climbing wall from Aberdeenshire Council for all to enjoy free due to a kind donation from Peterhead Community Council and a free bouncy castle provided by Fishers Castles of Peterhead so all can enjoy.
Buchan Community Radio will also be on hand to coordinate the day’s activities, while the Cookie Monster mingles with the crowd, so watch out if eating a cookie from one of the local traders.
Community Learning and Development will also be on hand to work with the young visitors and the organisers hope everyone will get into the Christmas spirit and give the local shopkeepers a welcome boost as this important time of year.
Santa hats are a must and Christmas spirit essential so head along with your family and friends and show what Peterhead can do when the whole community comes together. In addition to the local shops, the Deep Sea Mission will be opening its doors during the event, so please remember to support this great local cause while in the area.
Alex Geddes, Social Regeneration Officer for the ‘Here for You Partnership’ told us: “We really hope the community comes together at this special time of year to celebrate with friends and family.
“Christmas makes you think of what is most important in life and is a time to bring family and friends together. It would be wonderful to see the historic square full of people joining in with the signing and enjoying a few hours together as one big family.”
Meanwhile, the Light Up Peterhead committee will be staging a parade packed full of entertainment and a formal lights switch-on after the festival.
Santa’s parade leaves Broad Street from outside Murdoch Allan’s bakery at 3.30pm and heads for Drummer’s Corner for the switch-on.
Entertainment comes courtesy of Get Rhythm music school, Peterhead and District Pipe Band and Theatre Modo.
The group also confirmed this week that it has raised in excess of £9,000 in its recent appeal, with Friday night’s quiz at the Hearties raising £200 towards the cause.
