A local sculptor is preparing to launch her own gallery and workshop in Peterhead this weekend.

Melissa Arcaro recently graduated from Gray’s School of Arts with a BA (Hons) in Sculpture, and decided to set up her own gallery to bring something new to the Blue Toon.

She took on the Kirk Street property at the end of July, and has been getting it ready for business since.

Speaking about the new facility, Melissa said: “I had an idea to create a multi-functional place which would act as a gallery to bring different types of art to the area – including paintings, 3D models and sculptures.

“The aim of the gallery is to show people what is out there. Solo exhibitions will take place in October and November to give the public a chance to meet the artists and get to know more about their work.”

Local groups and schools will be able to get involved with various workshops set to take place at the gallery – and artists are welcome to get involved as well.

The art gallery will officially open this Friday (September 27) with a time still to be announced.

Following the launch, the gallery will be open from 10am on Saturday.

Melissa added: “Now that it’s finally here, it is exciting – and my two boys are very proud of their mum for opening her own shop.”
