Buchan has been hosting additional Local Development Plan consultation events.

Sessions were held at Cruden Bay and Strichen while a follow-up event at Peterhead is being held on Monday, November 25 at 7pm in the Palace Hotel.

The ongoing consultation events being held across Aberdeenshire raise awareness of the Local Development Plan’s Main Issues Report.

Senior Policy Planners from the council opened the meetings with presentations outlining what the Main Issues Report is, and the steps involved in producing the new Local Development Plan.

It was highlighted to the audience that making a written submission to the consultation provides an opportunity to get involved with the process of helping to shape future development in the community.

Fiona Thompson, Policy Planner for the Buchan Area, went on to discuss proposals for future development in Strichen, Cruden Bay, Hatton and Longhaven.

Following the presentations, debate was opened up to the floor and contributions

were made on a range of issues.

Discussion touched upon the issue of development within the Energetica corridor and how any future development would impact the local community.

There were questions regarding rural development and the additional houses that were possible under the new policy.

At th Cruden Bay event, while some were concerned over the impact extra houses could have on Longhaven, there was a view there should perhaps be more self-build plots available.

There was also discussion on the existing public health care premises in Cruden Bay and the surrounding area, and the lack of room for expansion.

At Strichen, discussion continued regarding a number of issues including the supply of land for housing development across Aberdeenshire and Strichen, how the council ensures affordable housing is provided in new developments and the success of the housing site currently under construction.

There are many more opportunities to engage with the Planning Policy Team and discuss future development across Aberdeenshire.
