Trawlermen star Jimmy Buchan and Buchan entrepreneur Gregor Mackintosh are celebrating after taking top honours at the Grampian Food Forum Awards.
North-east food and drink producers joined together to celebrate an iconic milestone at the awards, which were held onMarch 19.
Colin McLean, Chief Operating Officer and Stephen Brown, Local Sourcing and Diversification Manager with Scotmid Co-operative Foods, and Graham Singer, Food Operations Manager with ESS Support Services Worldwide made up the judging panel and were bowled over by the high standard of entries for the celebratory year.
The judging panel sampled 36 products from the 18 food and drink companies shortlisted earlier in the month.
A total of 29 companies reached the final across all categories.
Amity Fish Co Ltd, owned by Peterhead skipper Jimmy, took top spot in the Best New Foodservice Produce for a business with up to 25 employees.
The winning product was a trio of wild caught cold smoked fish.
Meanwhile, Gregor Mackintosh of Mackintosh of Glendaveny Ltd, picked up the Ardoe Hotel and Spa Award for the Judges’ Choice.
More than 230 representatives of the food and drink industry from the north-east
and further afield attended the presentation dinner at Ardoe House Hotel and Spa for the announcement of winners.
On presenting the winners with their trophies and certificates, Colin McLean said: “The quality of the entries has been superb which made the judging process all the more difficult.
“What was great to see and hear was the passion and drive coupled with the exciting plans all the entrants have in developing their businesses for the future.”
