A film outlining the challenges facing the fishing industry has been shown as part of an informative event held at Boddam.
‘The Business of Processing’ film was shown at an event attended by around 30 to 40 policy-makers, educators and others involved in the fishing industry at the Buchan Braes Hotel on Thursday, November 27.
Organised by Seafish, the event included opportunities for networking, the film showing, a presentation by Chris Middleton of Seafish and also a question and answer session.
The film, focusing on the challenges facing the processing sector, is the second in a series of films about the industry. It builds on The Business of Fishing film, which concentrated on the UK’s catching sector.
Made by Seafish, the second film is expected to appear on Youtube this week.
Chris Middleton, Head of PR and Marketing at Seafish, commented: “This is now a film which is available for industry and for anyone who wishes to learn more about the challenges facing the processing sector in the UK.”
John Cox of the Scottish Seafood Association said: “The catching sector is always profiled in the press - however, the processing sector is vitally important within the supply chain.
“Hopefully the film will demonstrate the significant employment opportunities in the sector ranging from engineering through to international marketing development and obviously the actual processing of a world-renowned product.”
Mr Cox added: “The best seafood ends up in the top restaurants throughout the world.”
