Faster BT Broadband for Mintlaw

Faster broadband is now available to almost 80,000 more homes and businesses in Scotland, including more than 2220 in Mintlaw, BT has announced.

Mintlaw is one of three Shire towns to benefit from upgrades as part of the roll-out of BT’s next generation broadband service delivered over copper lines.

The BT investment will make available download speeds of up to 20 megabits per second (Mbps) – more than double the fastest speed previously available from BT.

The new service is now accessible to around 1.7 million Scottish premises and is available on an open, wholesale basis to all companies providing broadband*.

It takes the number of homes and businesses across the country able to access the faster broadband to around 78 per cent.

Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s infrastructure services committee, Councillor Peter Argyle said: “Aberdeenshire Council recognises the huge importance of improving access to broadband for businesses and residents across the area and has already voiced its commitment to broadband infrastructure improvements, with £18million due to be spent over the next three years.

“This latest announcement by BT is further good news and it is great to see more communities in the North-east of Scotland benefiting from the roll-out of faster broadband.”

Vice-chair of the committee, Councillor Alan S. Buchan, added: “There is a great deal of innovation and expertise within Aberdeenshire and we do not want to lose out on that because we cannot provide the tools people need to conduct business competitively.

“The roll-out of faster broadband will help ensure this does not happen.”
