A Peterhead theatre group will help lead an initiative to re-establish the town centre as the recognised hub of community activity in the Toon.
Theatre Modo, alongside Aberdeenshire Council, Buchan Community Planning Partnership and design specialists Pidgin Perfect will lead Choose Peterhead - a process that will create and deliver a community vision and action plan for Peterhead town centre.
Martin Danziger, Creative Director at Theatre Modo, said: “What we have been doing so far is to engage as many people as possible to find out what they think and what their priorities are.”
Choose Peterhead will hold a Design Studio Event over a four day period from May 12-15 at Drummer’s Corner and the Happit shop.
Workshops at the event will ask the community to discuss and design ideas to make Peterhead “a better place to work, stay and play”.
Mr Danziger said: “We’re really trying to get people to say what they think and what the people say are the most important things to change.”
Changes to the town centre could begin as early as the end of the summer according to Mr Danziger.
He said: “Clearly some of it will have to go through full planning permission but some of it won’t and I would hope by Christmas that Drummer’s Corner will look reasonably different.”
To coincide with the Choose Peterhead design week the initiative will also be hosting a photo competition in collaboration with Artventure.
An exhibition will take place in the former Happit shop.
Mr Danziger said: “We are looking for the great, the beautiful, the unusual and the quirky. It could be of buildings or people, close up or wideshot, artistic or historic.”
All photos must be submitted by midnight on May 6 and two winners, one adult one under 18 will each receive a Panasonic Lumix camera sponsored by Peterhead Football Club in association with Donalds.
Rodger Morrison, Peterhead FC chairman, said: ““We were delighted to have the whole town backing the club during our recent cup and league campaigns and are therefore delighted to sponsor this photographic competition.
“We hope to see some great pictures submitted by local youngsters and adults alike which will provide the perfect backdrop to the Choose Peterhead exhibition and events.”
