Crimond’s new medical centre is well on schedule and is expected to be completed - and occupied - by May 1 this year.
The existing Crimond Medical Practice serves the parishes of Crimond, St Fergus, Rathen, Lonmay and the communities of St Combs, Inverallochy and Cairnbulg.
It provides both medical care and pharmaceutical dispensing for clients ranging from Peterhead to Fraserburgh and as far as Mintlaw to the westward.
It became increasingly apparent, however, that the rented building occupied by the practice is no longer fit for purpose.
The Crimond Charitable Trust was formed by Score Group plc as a vehicle by means of which a new facility would be designed, built and operated for the “benefit of the community.
The new facility will secure local medical services at the point of need for future generations.
Score Group has provided the land on which the new facility is located and gifted it to the Trust and also met all design costs.
In addition to the medical facilities, the proposed building will house a number of community amenities such as a community café, fitness suite, police office, etc.
The project passed through the planning stage; a Building Warrant has been obtained and construction began at the end of December 2013.
While Score Group continues to underwrite the project it is anticipated that organisations as well as individuals may wish to participate by contributing in some manner towards the cost.
Trustee, Conrad Ritchie, told the Buchanie: “Any contribution, no matter of monetary value, will benefit the community – whether it is donated now, in the future or at a bequest from an estate.
“We look forward to the opening of this exciting and meaningful project, to which all contributors will have the opportunity to attend.”
