A Peterhead shop owner has raised concerns for the future of his business following the start of construction work to create a new town centre hotel.
Manoj Chellingi is worried that trade at his Chapel Street shop Micro Movies will decline as work on the new Travelodge increases.
Manoj had been asked to move out by landlord Ian Devenish a couple of months before work began on restoring the building, but that would have caused many expensive problems as he explained: “I was offered compensation but it was not enough for me.
“Where we are is ideal and there is nowhere else I can move the shop to, and even if I did move I would need to re-apply for my alcohol and lottery licences which are expensive and take at least three or four months to get.”
He added: “There is nothing wrong with the building but if I move outside of the town I’ll lose money and trade.”
Landlord Ian Devenish said: “The developers had looked to try and get the building as a whole before starting construction and I have given Mr Chellingi some offers but they are obviously not good enough.
“The developers will work around the shop but as he is a tenant he has the right to be there and I understand this is an awkward situation.”
