Murdoch Allan and Son were among a host of North-east producers to serve up a culinary treat last week.
The Buchan bakery provided produce for Grampian Food Forum’s Dining Club which saw 110 guests representing the local food and drink industry attend the event at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.
Members were treated to an array of local produce such as Deeside game pie, scallop and smoked black pudding and a Scottish seafood platter carefully-prepared by Brian McDonald, AECC’s executive chef, and his team.
Diners had the opportunity to meet the many producers who took part including King Foods, The Smokehouse (Aberdeenshire), Isabella’s Preserves, McWilliam Aberdeen Ltd, Mitchells, Ola Oils, Gordon and Macphail and The Devenick Dairy.
Guest speaker, chef Nick Nairn, said: “It was a terrific opportunity for me to speak to this local audience who are obviously passionate about their produce and let them know what we are doing in the North East.
“It’s been a great year for us, with the Nick Nairn Cook School Aberdeen, and now Native restaurant at the Hilton Garden Inn.
“I took the opportunity to tell them about my new Scottish Food Family campaign, which aims to improve the food culture across Scotland by sharing great practice.
“Any business or member of the public can get involved by becoming a Food Family Partner or Friend and help to improve the way we eat in Scotland.”
Guests also heard from Brian Pack, chairman of Taste of Grampian, about the new developments for this year’s event, which takes place on Saturday, June 7.
Elizabeth Mathie, co-ordinator of the Grampian Food Forum commented “We introduced the Dining Club in 2002 and this has been our biggest attendance so far, which just goes to prove that these events are still providing the local industry with a valuable platform to make new business contacts.”
