Peterhead Projects Ltd has recently appointed Peterhead man Alex Geddes as its new social regeneration officer for the town and surrounding area.
The post was created after the body successfully gained funding from Fairer Scotland under the ‘Here for You’ partnership banner.
Alex comes with significant experience in community and regeneration work and was responsible for introducing the community warden service across Grampian and most recently was involved with a multi-agency programme of work involving public, private and third sector organisations.
The post has been introduced to support individuals and families who live in disadvantaged areas realise their potential and help improve access for all individuals to take up and sustain opportunities in education, training, volunteering and employment.
The role will also support the development of improved links between local community initiatives, services and employers who can provide opportunities for individuals requiring help and support to develop further in the employability chain and support the creation of a satellite information and signposting point for those requiring help and support to develop core skills and take up opportunities in the work place.
Alex will also focus on providing dedicated help and support to meet the emerging needs of individuals and families affected by the welfare reform agenda.
On a practical level Alex will be working with such initiatives as a refreshed street market, the Giving Tree Project, Light up Peterhead, Peterhead Employability, Arts and Creative Engagement Project and other emerging initiatives soon to be released.
Alex said “ I am delighted to be in the post and hope my previous skills will support the delivery of the project.
“As a local person I have a good understanding of local needs and will do all I can to support the wider regeneration team currently being formed and of course support the wishes of the wider community.”
Linda Bolger, chair of Peterhead Projects added: “It’s great to have Alex on board with his wealth of experience. This is a great exciting 3 year programme and Peterhead Projects are looking forward to being a part of it.”
