Buchan Masons host charity quiz

Brethren from Lodge Ugie 939 in Mintlaw and Lodge Leask No. 1084 in Maud recently held a charity quiz night in the Buchan Indoor Bowling Club.

The event was very well supported with 20 teams participating and Dr Douglas Nicol, Provincial Secretary, in the role of quizmaster.

The quiz was followed by a presentation of cheques to various charities Cheques for £500 each from Lodge Ugie and Lodge Leask were presented to Dr Vikki McBain of Fighting for Sight Aberdeen who enlightened everyone with the details of the important work the charity does to help people with vision problems in the Grampian area.

The donations will be used to assist in funding further high quality research work and in helping purchase much needed state of the art equipment used to investigate and diagnose eye related diseases and conditions.

A further cheque for £350 was presented by Lodge Ugie to Mr Alan Findlay, vice-chairman of Mintlaw Gala Committee, which distributes funds to local good causes and organisations in the village. Neil Keith, past chairman of the committee gave a talk on the causes the gala has been able to support over the last few years and kept everyone informed of some of the more recent achievements. The brethren from Lodge Ugie raised the £350 at an Open Doors Day events held during the time of the gala.

The quiz was won by the ‘Ever Hopefulls’ in a closely-fought contest and thanks go to the winners who very kindly donated their winnings back.

A fantastic raffle draw was held with a tremendous amount of prizes and thanks are expressed by the organisers to all who very kindly donated the prizes and supported the raffle.

Thanks also to Bro. Wishart Rosie for penning the questions, the staff at Buchan Indoor Bowling Club for their help and assistance, to Bro. Stephen Calder of Lodge St James 256 for entertaining everyone on arrival by playing a few tunes on the keyboard and to all who assisted in every way in making it a great evening.
