A PETERHEAD teacher has been named ‘Teacher of the Year’ in the Northsound Awards 2012.

Brian Carle (23), who works at Anna Ritchie School in the town, picked up the top award at a special presentation day at Aberdeen’s Music Hall on Thursday.

Mr Carle, who is teacher of Room 6 at the school, was nominated for the accolade by pupils and parents from Forehill Primary School in Aberdeen, where he previously taught.

He admits it was all a bit of a shock, telling the Buchanie: “The first I knew about it was when I got a phone call from Northsound.

“I didn’t realise that only the winners had been invited to the presentation event so I was nervous the whole day, but really surprised and delighted to have won.”

Mr Carle says he always wanted to be a teacher stating: “I remember putting that in my career choice when I was in first year at the academy.

“It’s just always something I wanted to do.”

Commenting on the award, Anna Ritchie’s head teacher, Ishbel Cruickshank, said: “Brian has been with us since August and is a great asset to the schoo.

“He has has fitted in really well and gets on really well with the children.

“We are all delighted for him., “ she added.
