Blackhills WRI October meeting was opened by president, Phyllis Findlay, who gave a warm welcome to everyone.

Minutes were read by Mary Palmer, secretary, and the business and Whitehil Cup at Mintlaw Public Hall were discussed.

Due to illness the demonstrator for the evening was unable to attend but thanks to Phyllis it was a hands-one evening with the members creating their own chocolate lollipop and having fun at playing Beetle. She also gave a recipe for Malteser biscuits along with mouthwatering samples to try.

The competition was a single iced sponge and resulted - 1 Elaine Donaldson, 2 Julie Swanston, 3 Phyllis Findlay. A lovely tea was provided by hosteess Elaine Donaldson and raffles were drawn.

Mary gave the vote of thanks and the next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 11.


The October meeting of Ardallie WRI was held at the new venue, Ardallie FC club house.

Members were entertained by Collieston and Slains WRI for the evening, and had a very enjoyable time.

The October completion winners were as follows,

Cous cous dish - 1 Margaret Daniel, 2 Moria Duncan; Raspberry jam - 1 Kathryn Anderson, 2 Margaret Daniel, 3 Moira duncan, 4 Isobel Cruickshank.

The next meeting and event will be held at Hatton cruden primary school on November 12 at 7pm for a 7.30pm start, which shall be the annual quiz night, with Albert Howie as quizmaster.


Mrs M. Birnie president at the October meeting of Tortorston WRI and welcomed members and guest speaker, Rev. S. Craggs from Ellon.

Business dealt with, Rev Craggs gave a talk on her time she and her husband stayed in the USA and visited various places of interest.

She showed members various articles she had brought back with her.

Everyone enjoyed her talk which was so well presented.

Tea was served and the competition resulted as follows: Two Coburgh cakes - 1 Mrs M. Smith, 2 Mrs B. Smith, 3 Mrs W. Birnie.

Mrs Birnie gave the vote of thanks bringing an enjoyable evening to a close.
