BUCHAN area councillors will be asked to approve an extension to the Peterhead Cycle Demonstration Town cycleway when they meet in Peterhead later.

The works include the removal of concrete slabs, widening of footpath from Balmoor Terrace to Catto Drive, upgrading the street lighting and associated drainage works.

The estimated budget for the works of £51,150.00 was approved by the Buchan Area Committee on 28 August 2012.

The works will be carried out by Aberdeenshire Council Infrastructure

The estimated outturn cost of the works is £77,000 or thereby this is more than 25% above the original estimate presented to and approved by the Area Committee in August 2012.

The additional expenditure results from an increase in cycleway width to 3m from the original 2.5m, upgrading the existing drainage system together with higher than anticipated tender rates.

The works can however be accommodated within the 2012-13 capital works.
