Green-fingered folk in Peterhead are being encouraged to get involved with another season’s planting at the town’s Landale Road gardens.
The Here For You Partnership is once again inviting local community groups, schools and individuals to get involved in some healthy outdoor activity to ensure a blooming beautiful floral display throughout the summer.
Community support in the Spring of last year helped kick-start the regeneration of the public gardens and Aberdeenshire Council provided seasonal bedding plants and donations of trees, shrubs and equipment were made by local businesses, churches and community groups.
While the tranquil, enclosed gardens were certainly far better used by the community last summer, it is hoped groups and schools will use this civic amenity for a host of outdoor activities this year.
This year’s batch of bedding plants are being delivered by the council’s landscape services team early this week and will require immediate planting to ensure the gardens get the best possible start for the summer ahead.
Here For You’s Ken Duncan explained: “Landale Road gardens were positively ablaze with colour last year thanks to the efforts of volunteers and we hope the town will rally round once again in the days, weeks and months to come.
“In addition to the planting there is some weeding to be undertaken in the new herbaceous border and an area of vacant ground to be cleared for a future community use.
“We would be delighted to hear from individuals or groups who would like to get hands-on at the gardens, so to give us an idea of numbers give us a call on 01779 478950, drop us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or find us on Facebook.”
