New DEER’S St Kane pre- school has been helped in its fundraising efforts by a local woman.
Resident Amanda Davis did a tandem skydive to help raise funds for the group school after its funding was pulled by Aberdeenshire Council.
Amanda, who lives and works in the village, said: “I just wanted to do something for the local area and this is such a good cause.
“I’ve always wanted to do a skydive as well so doing it this way meant I could try to help somewhere local too.”
Commenting on Amanda’s gesture, mum-of-two Karen Duncan, who helps with the pre-school’s fundraising said: “Our funding was pulled by the council a few years ago but now we have enough funds for 2012-13.
Amanda did the skydive for us on April 14 at Fife Airport and she raised an amazing £700.
“The money is going towards a computer as our old one has just packed in. It’s a great help as it’s sometimes things like that, that you can’t afford to replace.
“I think it shows that local people are still behind us. It makes it more special that it was someone without a child who wanted to help us and just shows the spirit of the community.”
The pre-school will be holding an open day on Friday, June 8 from 8.30am until 4pm. They will be taking registration for playgroup, wrap-around care and messy play. For information contact Eileen Morrice on (01771) 644340 during session hours.
