The annual Longside and District Community Council gardening competition came to a close with the presentation of prizes for those showcasing some of the best gardens within the village.

Each year the committee and judging panel try to vary the categories judged to try an include a greater variety of gardens.

This year, for the first time, pupils from Longside Primary School got the opportunity to judge for themselves their favourite garden and award a prize to the winner.

Overall winners for 2012 were George and Irene Irvine of 21 Station Road for their stunning efforts.

The community council was once again delighted with the high quality of gardens and green spaces in the village and, as always, took absolute pleasure in judging the gardens.
