End of an era as dancing stops

IT was the end of an era last Thursday as St. Fergus Old Tyme Dancing Club held its final session after 23 years.

Over the years various musicians have provided the music for the classes including Sandy Wilson of Tyrie, Duncan Watson, Frank Thomson, Graham Mitchell and, most recently, Charlie Eason of the Garioch Blend and Denis Morrison.

Due to dwindling participation numbers it was decided to call time on the weekly activities.

Dancing instructor for the group is Marlene Lowe of Strichen and on the first night at St. Fergus a total of 102 persons from across the North-east attended and were taught various dances including lava, lancers, quadriles and many more old tyme favourites.

Unfortunately, very few of the original dancers were present on the final night, however thanks were expressed to all those who have helped over the past 23 years.
