People in Peterhead are told: 'Please take a Covid-19 test'

People who live, work or study in Peterhead are being urged to get a Covid-19 test at the community drop-in self-test centre.

Friday, 5th March 2021, 12:46 pm
People are being encouraged to drop in for a test when they are out shopping or collecting a prescription. The centre is open 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.

The community testing centre, in Rescue Hall, Prince Street, opened at the end of last month and is for people without Covid symptoms.

It is running for a 12-week period, and is operating from from 8am-8pm seven days a week, with the last admission at 7.45pm.

It is open to anyone who lives, works or studies in the town and test results are provided on the day.

It is estimated that one in three people with coronavirus do not display symptoms and therefore some individuals will be spreading the virus without realising it. Testing without symptoms is entirely voluntary but by taking the test residents will be able to better protect their family, colleagues and the wider community by ensuring they are not spreading the virus to others without knowing it

Even those who have had their first or even second Covid jab can get tested – while vaccinated you can still be carrying and spreading the virus. Anyone who recently had a vaccine should wait 48 hours from having the jab before coming for a test to ensure they don't get a void test.

Booking a test is not required, and people are being encouraged to pop down when they are returning home from essential trips such as food shopping or collecting prescriptions so as not to make more journeys than strictly necessary.

People attending will be asked to self-test by taking a swab sample from the back of their throat or nose. Once tested they will be asked to return home and wait for their results which will take around 30 minutes.

Everyone living, working or studying in Peterhead is being encouraged to visit the community testing centre in Rescue Hall.

Anyone testing positive with this lateral flow test will be notified directly by the NHS and must immediately self-isolate and book a second test online at www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or call 0300 303 2713.

There is support for those needing to isolate – call the Grampian Assistance Hub for more information on 0808 196 3384.

You should not attend the centre if you have Covid symptoms, have had a positive test in the last 90 days or are currently self-isolating as a close contact or are a shielder. People who are shielding can request a home test kit by calling 01467 468820.
