Pride of Buchan award for Ewan
An S6 pupil at Peterhead Academy has been given a Pride of Buchan award to highlight his numerous sporting achievements.
Ewan Calder was presented the award on Monday, November 4 by councillor and chairman of the Buchan Area Committee, Stuart Pratt.
Ewan was introduced to running in June 2010 with Peterhead JogScotland, where he later entered and coached 400m races.
His winning streak began in June 2011, when he won the Scottish Schools Under 15’s 400m race at Grangemouth.
Ewan joined Aberdeen Amateur Athletics Club in February 2012 where he coached at 400m distance.
2013 has proved to be Ewan’s most successful year yet, starting with gold for 4x400m relay at the Scottish Championships at Grangemouth in May.
He also received a silver medal in the individual 400m at the Scottish East District Championships at Meadowbank Stadium.
In June, he received bronze in the individual 400m at the Scottish Schools Championships at Grangemouth as well as breaking the Scottish Senior Schools individual 400m record and Peterhead Academy’s individual 200m and 4x400 relay records.
Ewan got a silver medal in the 4x400m relay, representing Scotland at the Schools International Athletics Board Championship at Dublin in July.
In September, Ewan broke Aberdeen Amateur Club’s 4x400m relay record and won Gold in the 4x400m relay, representing Scotland at the UK Schools Championships in Sheffield.
Ewan said: “This is a brilliant achivement and I’m honoured to collect it on behalf of the school.”
Stuart Pratt added: “The Buchan Area Committee are delighted to present Ewan with the award. It is an outstanding achievement, breaking records both nationally and internationally.”
Head teacher, Evan Ritchie said: “I am delighted for Ewan. It is a reflection of his hard work and dedication and highlights what pupils can achieve if they put their minds to it.”
