Peterhead Academy pupils will be attempting to rock their way to the top next month when they take to the stage in the finals of the 2016 Be Your Best Rock Challenge.

Peterhead, along with seven other schools, will be attempting to steal Thornton Gramma School’s title of Northern Premier Champions when they compete in the finals on Saturday, July 2.

The Blue Toon team has spent the past few weeks finalising their performance since their regional heat and will spend the day at the venue rehearsing, watching and supporting all the other schools before competing in a spectacular evening show.

Last year the Northern finals ttracted more than 2,400 audience members as they watched the schools battle it out for top spot.

Peterhead Academy has had a long association with Rock Challenge, achieving many awards over the past few years.

They performed well in 2015, coming third in the UK finals after judges said they had ‘mesmerised’ audiences with their story of a mad scientist who attempts to end the planet’s food shortages in the year 3015 by genetically modifying plants.

To recognise their achievement, Buchan councillors visited the academy in September and awarded the school a Pride of Buchan Award.

Originating in Australia, the Rock Challenge was introduced to the UK in 1996 by Hampshire Constabulary with the aim to help young people enjoy school and live pro-active lives free of drugs.
