Mrs Cruickshank found it unusual that she had to sit on the front row insead of being on stage and it soon became clear why she had to do so.

On behalf of the parents and children, members from Anna Ritchie School’s Parent Council took to the stage to present Mrs Cruickshank with her very own ‘ This is Your Life’, featuring a range of pictures of Ishbel as a youngster, her school and work days and important events including her graduation, wedding and some family photos.

After the presentation, Parent Council members announced that wasn’t her only gift - Ishbel was also given two garden chairs and an umbrella, a bottle of whisky and two glasses, a pair of earrings and a voucher.

A teary Ishbel said she was “lost for words” and added: “I have loved my whole teaching career, especially my time here at Anna Ritchie School.

“I didn’t know anything about this, someone wrote in my diary that there would be a surprise and it really was.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone and I will miss the staff and children most of all.”
