An innovative multi-functional learning space is set to be created in Peterhead Academy.

Members of the Buchan area committee will be asked to note the estimated cost of £260,000 for creating the space, which is being cfunded from the Scottish Futures Trust.

In August 2014 the Scottish Government announced a £5 million fund to support Inspiring Learning Places which will aid open and flexible learning and enable closer partnerships between schools and further education.

Councillors will hear that the key aim of the project is to create an innovative multi-functional learning space that will enable the curriculum to be delivered in an environment that is modern, flexible and motivating to both pupils and staff.

The works comprise the coversion of two classrooms into an open plan learning plaza in association with an adjacent corridor and two further linked classrooms.

The approach will not only be beneficial for current pupils and staff at Peterhead Academy, but inform design/refurbishment of schools across Aberdeenshire.

The cost of the project will be met in full by the SFT grant.
