Public forum to discuss Blackhills Hall potential
A public forum is being hosted by Peterhead Projects Limited to assess potential future uses for the former Blackhills School.
Aberdeenshire Council has been undertaking an assessment of properties under their control and as such a number of these buildings are available under a scheme known as ‘Asset Transfer’.
Peterhead Projects has looked at a number of these buildings - premises which, in its opinion, could be improved and better serve their communities.
PPL chairman John Brownlee explained: “After much thought we consider that Blackhills Community Hall - the former Blackhills School - is such a building but before we move any further on this we need to consult with the local public in order to get feedback and, hopefully, support for our plans.”
“While Blackhills Community Hall has a few regular lettings for long standing local groups it is far from being well used. Aberdeenshire Council maintain it only to the minimum level and as such it is slowly deteriorating.
“With the support of the local community, Peterhead Projects would be able to apply for sufficient funding in order to install heating and insulation, replace the windows, build a suitable kitchen, improve the toilets and improve the building and land to meet 21st century demands.”
PPL wants to work with the current users, set up a constituted hall committee and also introduce new users to the hall.
Two drop-in sessions will be hosted at the community hall on Wednesday, September 24 between 7pm and 9pm and on Saturday, September 27 between 10am and 12pm.
