Morrisons donates £20,000 to refurbish park near Peterhead store
A £20,000 grant from the Morrisons Foundation will enable a green space in Peterhead to be developed for use as a play area for the benefit of the whole community.
Peterhead Area Community Trust (PACT) reached out to the charitable arm of the supermarket to develop the green space to ensure members of the local community had access to good quality outdoor, natural environments, particularly children and young people.
Alan Fakley, PACT treasurer said: “We are thrilled with the support from the Morrisons Foundation.
"Their generous donation will allow families shopping nearby access to the refurbished park where they can relax, enjoy the facilities and improve their wellbeing thanks to the new facilities.
“When developing projects in Peterhead, we really want to make a lasting difference to the lives of people within the community for many years to come, improving the conditions of life for people who may be in hardship, vulnerable and empowering social cohesion for all to enjoy.
"This support will help us achieve these aims and we couldn’t be more pleased with the help from Morrisons.”
Sheena Irvine, Morrisons Community Champion at the Peterhead, presented the donation to the charity.
She said: “I’m over the moon that through the Morrisons Foundation we have been able to make this massive donation to PACT.
"Their project to develop the green space near the Morrisons store will make a huge difference to the lives of so many people.”
Sheena explained that her role at Morrisons ensured she was engaged with the needs of the local community.
"I know that this new park will benefit everyone, from local shoppers, families with young children and those who just need a safe place to enjoy being outside,” she said.
"I’m very proud to present this donation to such a worthwhile charity for a marvellous project.”
The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives.
Since launching, over £33 million has been donated to hundreds of charities and good causes across England, Scotland and Wales.
