Following an allocation of funding of £1.437 million from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund and Scottish Government, the North East Scotland Fisheries Local Action Group (NESFLAG) is to hold a launch event in Peterhead on Monday, March 7.

The event will be an opportunity for local fishing businesses and communities to find out more about how they can access funding for projects which meet the following priorities:

Facilitating diversification within and outside of the fisheries sector; supporting lifelong learning and job creation in fisheries areas; adding value, creating jobs and promoting innovation at all stages of the fisheries seafood supply chain;international co-operation and national co-operation.

Decisions on the allocation of funds to businesses, communities and other organisations will be made by NESFLAG – a partnership of community, public, private and fisheries organisations.

NESFLAG co-chair and star of the ‘Trawlermen’ TV series Jimmy Buchan said: “I’m very pleased that we are able to announce the launch of the NESFLAG programme which will provide much needed support to local fishing communities and businesses.

“These EU and Scottish Government funds will help deliver a wide range of projects to sustain and diversify the fishing industry and coastal communities across Aberdeenshire and Angus”.

Linda Hope, fellow NESFLAG co-chair added: “The launch will be an opportunity for organisations to find out more about the type of activities which can receive funding and how to apply for a grant.
