Applications are being sought for the position of project coordinator to oversee the 15-month development phase of Rediscover Peterhead.

Representatives from a number of businesses recently formed a constituted steering group to work towards the creation of a Business Improvement District focusing on the heart of Peterhead town centre.

Rediscover Peterhead will see businesses working together and investing collectively in local improvements to their trading environment.

The project coordinator will lead a major consultation exercise to establish the issues, concerns and priorities of businesses.

The successful candidate will also develop the BID business plan, lead the ballot campaign and other phases of the BID programme of work to secure a positive ballot and the creation of the Business Improvement District.

With more than 30 such initiatives operating across Scotland, BIDs are not a substitute for central or local government services, but are an effective way in which additional funding can be raised.

Businesses can then decide how best to use that funding to strengthen the local businesscommunity.

John Pascoe, vice-chairman of the local steering group, is keen to see a self-motivated individual drive the 15-month development phase forward in the Blue Toon.

“This position will be an exciting challenge for the successful candidate and it will involve the handling of a number of key tasks so it will not be for the faint-hearted,” said Mr Pascoe.

“But the scope for personal development and the rewards in getting our town through a successful ballot will be tremendous.

“The local BID steering group will, of course, work alongside the coordinator to take the positive message about Rediscover Peterhead to every business in the BIDarea.”

The role – which offers flexible working hours - will initially be part-time for the first six months progressing to full time working hours towards completion of the BID development.

This position has the potential to develop into a full-time position should the BID be successful at ballot and a BID Company be formed.
