Some of Peterhead’s finest performers will be taking to the stage this week in a hilarious show in Aberdeen.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, by Just Cause Productions, will take to the stage at Aberdeen Arts Centre Theatre from Wednesday, September 18 to Saturday, September 21, at 7.30pm.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee tells the story of six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, who learn that winning isn’t everything and losing doesn’t necessarily make you a loser.

This is a comical tale of overachiever’s angst, chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime.

The show’s Tony Award-winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of hit musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time.

Just Cause Productions recently performed the 24-hour musical and it was a massive success.

Over the last four years the company has rehearsed and staged a full musical in a day, just 24 hours.

The cast turns up at the Arts Centre on the Friday night and at 7pm the show is announced, 7.30pm rehearsals start and the countdown begins.

So far Just Cause Productions has performed full-scale versions of Anything Goes, Grease, Oklahoma and Hello Dolly. This year’s 24-hour effort was High School Musical.

This latest production is being staged in Aberdeen for the very first time and is also a completley different theatre experience as the show is changed each night.

Audience members are asked to volunteer to go up on stage and spell alongside the cast!

Seasoned Blue Toon perfomers Ryan Peacock and Stephanie Bruce are both performing in the show, and it’s a must for any of their fans.

Tickets for the show are priced at £14 (concessions £2 off), and are available by calling (01224) 641122 or alternativey you can purchase them from Aberdeen Box Office.

Just Cause Productions is an Aberdeen-based theatre group who set out to try and perform new and interesting musicals while raising money for local charities.

In the past the company has supported Alzheimers Scotland, Befriend a Child, Grampian Kidney Patients Association, Inspire and Castlegate Arts.

The company is also responsible for ‘Jukebox Legends’ a small group of singers who sing you songs from all your favourite artists from Dolly Parton to Queen, from Abba to Neil Diamond.
