Pipe band seeks instructors

A PETERHEAD pipe band is looking for instructors to join its ranks after it was forced to suspend sessions.

Peterhead & District Pipe Band was set up a year ago and has worked hard to raise funds to the tune of £30,000, but has had to stop its gatherings due to a lack of instructors.

Band secretary, Carol Murphy, said: “We have a healthy bank balance and the equipment, which are usually the things groups find hard to get.

“We now need instructors for the band as we have about 30 to 40 members, with half of them kids between six and 18 years of age,” she said.

The group needs at least 12 instructors to help out and if anyone was to travel to Peterhead for one night a week, their expenses would be covered.

“It’s such a shame we can’t get instructors as at the end of the day it is our culture we are talking about here.

“Piping is part of Scottish life and its history and it was great for us to see all the young people eager to learn,” she added.
