Library service hosting exhibitions

Aberdeenshire Council’s Library Service is to host two exhibitions as part of the 2013 Doric Festival.

The exhibitions, which will display photographs and literary works on‘Farming Recollections’ and ‘Doric – a way of life: focus on fishing’ are open to the public until October 12.

‘Farming Recollections’ exhibition will be held at Alford Library and willmainly exhibit photographs dating from the early 20th century from a number of areas in Aberdeenshire.

The exhibition aims to illustrate farming as it used to be, usinghorsepower. The exhibit will portray images from a range of locations including Methlick, King Edward and Drumblade.

‘Doric – a way of life: focus on fishing’ exhibition is being held at Stonehaven Library and will display mainly photographic content dating backto the early 20th century from various Aberdeenshire fishing communitiesall around the coastline.

The exhibition aims to illustrate the traditional boats previously used andthe work which went on onshore to process, stone and sell the fish.

There are a number of poetry aspects at the exhibition, including works byPeter Buchan, Alex Murison and Flora Garry.
