Aberdeen's eagerly awaited Wild Dolphins have made their official first appearance all over the city.
Aberdeen's eagerly awaited Wild Dolphins have made their official first appearance all over the city.

Fans of Aberdeen’s hugely successful Wild Dolphins art trail are to have the chance to join in the bidding action when all 50 are auctioned to raise money for charity.

The evening auction will be held at the city’s Music Hall on Wednesday, September 10 from 7pm and public tickets for the event are now on sale at Aberdeen Box Office.

Demand is expected to be extremely high for the balcony tickets, which are priced at £10 each, plus booking fee.

Guests and sponsors are also being invited to attend the auction, which will see every one of the Wild Dolphins auctioned off. All proceeds from the night will be split between The ARCHIE Foundation, the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, and Whale and Dolphin Conservation, to support its work protecting local dolphins who live off the Aberdeen coast.

The project has been hailed as a spectacular success, with more than 10,000 people downloading a smartphone app to help them find all 50 of the dolphin sculptures, and many thousands of others touring the city with paper maps and taking “dolphies” – photos of themselves next to their favourite dolphin.

Cassie Thompson, director of fundraising at The ARCHIE Foundation, said: “The response to the Wild Dolphins trail has been incredible and tens of thousands of people have been touring around Aberdeen to see them all over summer.

“We have had a lot of interest from companies and individuals who are very keen to bid for particular Wild Dolphins so the auction looks set to be a very exciting night!”

Stine Bang, events fundraising manager at WDC, said: “All the money raised on the night will go to WDC and ARCHIE, to support local causes in the North-east of Scotland, so we hope all our bidders will dig deep and help us to raise as much as possible.”
