Members of a Fraserburgh dance academy are due to travel to Stirling this weekend to compete in a prestigious dance competition.

A total of 15 dancers from 6.1.0 Dance Academy in Fraserburgh will be taking part in YDance Routes Destinations this Saturday, February 22.

During the competition, 20 of the best Scottish youth dance companies will be performing in two inspiring evenings of dance as part of the YDance Routes national dance programme.

The performance is also a stepping stone to the 2014 Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in which 10 groups will be chosen to represent Scotland at the Festival held in Glasgow.

6.1.0 will be performing a brand new piece called “ObScUrE cOuTuRe” inspired by the fashion and modelling world.

The 15 dancers representing 6.1.0 and Fraserburgh are: Lisa Stuart, Taylor Dixon, Ashleigh Chapman. Rachel Noble, Ailsa Hendry, Rhiann Muirhead, Ashleigh Thompson, Eirinn Taylor, Sarah Clark, Jamie Wood, Aimee Blackhall, Faye Buchan, Abbie Colley, Abbie Rollo and Iona Hendry.

Commenting, Stephen Summers of 6.1.0 Dance Academy said: “I am excited for 6.1.0 to perform at Destinations and I am hopeful that we will be one of the chosen groups to represent Scotland in July in Glasgow.

“I have a very enthusiastic, energetic, talented bunch of girls to take with me and I cannot wait for them to showcase what dancers from Fraserburgh have to offer.

“I would like to thank Doreen Gibson for designing and making our costumes and Nicola Henderson for donating material.”
