Hearts had Inverness City as visitors to Raemoss Park on a very foggy day.
Inverness took the game to Hearts early on and took the lead when a free-kick from McDonald was headed home by Mason with the Hearts defence not switched on.
Hearts had a good chance when Glendinning was put through but Young pushed his shot wide.
Hearts conceded a second goal when a corner by Miller wasn’t cleared and Sanderson shot through a ruck of players from six yards.
The home side should have pulled one back when McLeod hit the keeper from six yards and the rebound again hit the keeper to keep Inverness in the game.
But just on the half-time Inverness were awarded a penalty when a shot from Miller was adjudged to have hit Kris Keith’s arm and McDonald scored from the spot.
Hearts now had a mountain to climb but took the game to Inverness with good positive play when Hart was almost through and the goalkeeper miskicked but nobody was following up to score.
They did pull a goal back when Danny Glendinning volleyed home after a McLeod pass and now it was game on.
Masson came on for Clark and Cunningham on for Duncan, with Hearts being awarded a penalty when McDonald wrestled Cunningham to the ground. Danny Glendinning stepped up to take the spot kick and scored.
Inverness were now hanging on and another cross went across the Inverness goal which Lewis Brown just missed with a header. Inverness played out time to get the win.
Hearts were so unlucky on the day not to finally get something out of this one to end the losing run and they had numerous chances to put the game beyond Inverness.
But lapses in concentration in defence and just not getting the breaks at the other end made it yet another frustrating day and the Hearts’ disappointing run continues.
Next game is away to Islavale in Division 1, with the kick off at 2.00pm.
