A Peterhead family took top honours in a 5k Chicken-Fil-A sponsored charity run while on a family holiday to the home of Mickey Mouse.

The Robertson clan of Cameron, Jennifer, Elle and Cameron (junior) signed up to take part in the run while on an October break in Orlando.

Jennifer said: “It was the day before we left to go home and we had just had two weeks of eating in America so it probably wasn’t the best training for it.”

Despite their somewhat laid-back approch to the run the Robertson family showed their American couterparts how it was done competing against 600 other competitors.

Cameron senior claimed second spot overall in the mens, claiming top honours in the seniors category for over 40s.

Jennifer matched his efforts exactly finishing second female overall and first in her age category .

Their daughter Elle finished first in the girl category, finishing ahead of most of the adult runners.

Nine-year-old Cameron finished 6th in the boys category in his first ever 5k run.

Jennifer said: “It was a 7:30 am startin the dark and we thought we were off our heads but then the sun came up and it was really hot.”

Unknown to Cameron before he set off his prize for finishing first senior male was a year’s supply of Chick-Fil-A chicken burger meals.

The Peterhead Athletic Club members are now looking forward to the Peterhead 10k on Sunday November 8 with kids races also running from 11:45am.
